Senior Sessions: What to wear and expect

May 26, 2013

Hello!  I’ve written this blog because I wanted to address some common questions and give you an idea of what goes into these sessions!

What to wear:

For senior sessions I always recommend layering, fabrics with textures, accessories (think belts, jewelry, hats, scarves, boots, unique shoes, etc) and don’t be afraid of print!  They really add dimension to the photos.  You just want to be yourself, feel great, and wear something that makes you feel comfortable.  Try to avoid bright, florescent colors on top because they tend to reflect and cause unflattering shadows on the face.

If you have different styles on different days then bring a few outfits that best represent you.  For example, you can bring something soft and romantic, then something a little edgier.

We’ll work these to match our different locations.  You may bring as many outfit changes as you'd like, bring extras if you want me to help you decide once we are on location.  You just want to be yourself, feel great, and wear something that makes you feel comfortable.  If you have a hobby that you'd like to work into your shoot or a team/band uniform bring that along as well!

What to expect from your senior shoot:

If you have booked an hour session you can expect 15-20 edited images (based on how the session goes) and with a two hour session you can expect 30-40.  These images will be uploaded to a password protected online gallery for you to view, download, and print directly from!

I try to make sessions as laid back and fun as possible.  It’s all about capturing you as you truly are.

Please feel free to bring props to your session.  I am always happy to work anything into your photos that may be important to you and reflects who you are.

I will happily choose our locations for your senior shoot, however, I always encourage unique and private locations if they are available!  It truly makes your senior session one of a kind and more personalized!

Note to Parents:

Before scheduling a senior session, please be sure that your senior is truly interested.  I’ve had several sessions in the past where the senior just truly was not interested in having their photos taken and it makes for an uncomfortable experience for everyone involved.  I know you, as their parent, want these photos as a keepsake but in this situation you may be better off taking them to a studio just for a few headshots, rather than dragging them to an on location, hour long shoot.

That being said, I hope that your senior IS into this!  I truly love capturing these young adults in such an important time in their lives!

I know this is a very sensitive time in a teen’s life and there may be self-esteem issues at hand.   If your son or daughter is having issues with their complexion, tell them not to fret!  Basic touch ups are included with all senior packages!  If a severe case of acne is present there may be a small additional fee for removal, since this takes quite a bit more time in the editing process.  If you think this may be an issue please let me know!  As far as body issues, make sure your child is comfortable in the clothes they choose so that they look comfortable in their photos.  I will pose them in the most flattering and tasteful way possible.  I want them to feel beautiful and confident.  If they have a pose/ poses that they want to try I’m always up for something new!

One last thing.  I know this is a very emotional time for you, witnessing a huge stepping stone in your child’s life, and I want you to be a part of this shoot.  While of course you are welcome to join us and be there for moral support, please remember to keep everything positive and upbeat.  We want this to be a fun and laid back experience!  The more natural your son or daughter acts, the more confident and wonderful they will look!

Thank you very much for taking the time to read through this blog, I hope it answered any questions you may have had!  I truly love what I do, I hope it shows in my images, and I look forward to our shoot!  I hope you are as excited as I am!
